Letting go might be the best move you ever make.

February 27, 2024

I was thinking of something the other day and wanted to share it with you.

You know how we naturally try to keep a tight grip on how things should work out and go in our lives? Almost as, if we don't plan out and control every little detail... everything will just fall apart?

Well, I'm starting to think that maybe, just maybe... we've been wrong all along.

Let's chat about the whole "control freak" thing. I mean, I get it, I really do. The world is a crazy place and it feels good to think we have some sort of say in how our own lives turn out, especiallly with so much out of control in today's world.  But then I remember a little story that reminded me to see things differently.

There was this young single mom – back in the day when being a single mom was NOT very accepted and came with a ton of judgment and challenges. This young new mom was trying her hardest to make things work, to create this perfect picture of a family that society expected, even though the “father” made it crystal clear he was out!! She thought that by controlling everything, she could some how make it all okay. Sounds exhausting, right?!

But here's where the plot twists – her tight grip on control was actually keeping her from the happiness she deserved. It wasn't until she let go of how she thought her life was supposed to look that things started to change for her. She bumped into this guy who would later become her husband.  He didn't just "deal" with her having a child, he was all in and ready to take that child on and love as his own.  What a real deal love story!!

This got me thinking. How many times have we missed out on something incredible because we were too busy trying to control the outcome? I'm starting to believe that sometimes the best things in life come from the unexpected – those wild, out-of-nowhere moments that you could never plan for, even if you tried.

So, what if we all just took a step back? What if we embraced the chaos a little and let life do its thing? I'm not saying we should throw all caution to the wind and live recklessly. But maybe... just maybe, there's something to be said for being open to the possibilities that come when we're not trying to script every single moment of our lives.

Imagine the adventures we could have, the people we could meet, and the stories we could tell if we just loosened up a bit. Life's got its own plans, and sometimes, they're way cooler than anything we could've come up with on our own… Just like the above love story.. which happens to be my own. ;)

So here's to the surprises and all the beautiful chaos that comes when we let go of the reins just a little.

Who knows? Letting go might just be the best move you've ever made.
